Unmasking Tools for Removing Mosaic from Censored Pictures

Updated on 02-05-1998

In order to truly appreciate Japanesque, "unmasking tools" are indispensable. Most of the Japanesque pictures available on the Internet come masked with mosaic, which nobody but the police wants. Go get appropriate unmasking tools that suit your computer.

Remember that censorship exercised by the authorities is in itself the epitome of obscenity !
Listed below are the links to the web sites where unmasking tools are downloadable.

Tips on unmasking for Macintosh users

Make sure that you have downloaded the following two files from this web page.

(1) MozKiller
(2) DeCP

And you can forget the rest of the files listed here. You could substitute ByeByeBlue for "MozKiller", but I wouldn't recommend it.

(1) MozKiller is a demasking tool. It works on the drag/drop principle. It handles several different types of masking.
(2) DeCP is a CP Code reader. The CP code is purple mosaic that needs to be deciphered. Again, this works on drag/drop.

If the mask you see is blue, use MozKiller directly. Select the masked area first. Go to "Mask" and open it to "Qo-blue" or "Whirl" and hit the return key.

If the mask in question is purple, drag the file onto DeCP and drop it there to learn the correct CP Code. Then you copy the first word that appears there. Now open the file with MozKiller. Go to "Mask" and open it to "CP-purple" and paste the word there. While you are at it, don't forget to select the masked area first with the Selection Tool.

Note that sometimes CP codes have been intentionally removed from graphic files, in which case there's nothing you can do about it.
