![]() Does this mumbo jumbo look like a familiar nightmare to you ? What happened was that you opened a segment of a multiple part posting of a file, which can be a picture, a sound, a document,a program, or any other kind of file. Such posting is indicated as [1/5],[2/5],[3/5],[4/5],[5/5] and so on. |
The trick to downloading a multiple-posted binary file is to download the whole pieces at a stroke. To do that, first you multiple-select the necessary articles. If you are using a Mac, shift-click what you need to select them all. That's right, you keep the shift key pressed down while you click-select them. |
Sometimes the articles that you need to select are scattered over and interrupted by unwanted articles ; then to multiple-select only what you need, you command-click the pieces to select them. You know what the "Command Key" is ; keep it pressed down while you click-select the relevant articles. |
Now that you've selected all the parts of the posting (binary file), you are ready to download it. Go to the Menu Bar and open "File". Select "Save As" and type in whatever name you want to give it and designate where you want this file to be downloaded to. Downloading it to your desktop is recommended. Go ahead and "Save" ; this will start downloading the file. |
After a while, downloading will be completed. You see the icon of the downloaded file on your desktop. Here it's titled "photo 1". Drag this and drop it over Stuffit Expander. |
|
Make sure that you've got StuffIt Engine installed in the extensions folder. Otherwise, this trick won't work.
Also if Stuffit Expander should fail to get the job done, then it may be base64-encoded. Try Decoder1.2 or Mpack1.5 instead. |
Stuffit Expander will expand the file. You can see here that the expanded file is a jpg file titled "bhh2.jpg". |
Now let's take a look at what we've got. H'm, not bad, eh ? Not bad at all, I should say !

| If you are planning to make use of newsgroups big time, you should try such heavy-duty programs as "Newswatcher 2.16" or "YetAnother-Newswatcher2.40". They are dedicated applications for handling newsgroups. |
